At Inner Compass, you’ll find specialized, compassionate counseling that empowers you to heal, rediscover your inner guidance, and build a life rooted in authenticity and self-trust. Unlike other therapy practices, we offer expert support with a deep understanding of the unique challenges you face as you leave a high-control religion, guiding you on a healing journey that honors your personal experiences and growth.
Hi! I’m Mellissa! I’m a lifelong learner committed to personal and professional growth. I adore life with my three teen and preteen kiddos and two fur babies! I am a lover of big books, research, podcasts, and documentaries; but I balance it all out with a little bit of fantasy and fiction!
As a therapist who believes in practicing what I preach, I regularly seek out my own healing through talk therapy and somatic practices. For me, healing is a continuous journey and an imperative part of this experience we call life! I love hot yoga, coffee, riding my beach cruiser, running, walking my dogs, hikes, meditation, brunch, sneaking out for a late night flick at the theater, adventuring with my kids, dancing with friends, and the joy of good food that I didn’t cook!
DBT combines dialectical and behavioral techniques to help you manage overwhelming emotions, improve relationships, and develop healthy coping strategies. It focuses on building skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
IFS is a therapeutic approach that helps you understand and heal the different "parts" of yourself. By exploring these internal parts with compassion, IFS allows you to address inner conflict, heal emotional wounds, and cultivate a stronger sense of self-leadership and balance.
EMDR is a trauma-focused therapy that helps individuals process and heal from distressing memories. Through guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation, EMDR reduces the emotional intensity of traumatic experiences, allowing you to move forward with greater peace and clarity.
Inner Compass offers a therapy experience tailored to you. From the very first session, the focus is on understanding your story, meeting you exactly where you are, and designing your therapy to fit your specific needs and goals. Whether you’re healing from trauma, managing anxiety, or navigating life transitions, this is a non-judgmental space where you can be vulnerable and fully supported.
Therapy here isn’t just about addressing symptoms; it’s about helping you reconnect with your inner guidance, rediscover your strength, and move toward a life that feels true to who you are.
Mellissa emphasizes that once a client, always a client. Even after you’ve completed therapy, she remains available for guidance, whether it’s through follow-up sessions or helping you find additional resources.
Sessions are scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on what works best for you. Mellissa uses evidence-based modalities like EMDR, IFS, and DBT to address your trauma, reduce anxiety and depression, and help you heal from past experiences.
Mellissa works with you to set specific, measurable treatment goals based on your unique needs. Whether you’re dealing with religious trauma, anxiety, or life transitions, these goals will guide your therapy process and help track your progress.
In the first session, Mellissa conducts a thorough assessment to understand your trauma, experiences, and personal goals, creating a safe and supportive environment for you to share your story.
